Project description
Direct delivery to secure pickup points—such as electronic lockers, staffed counters, or relay points—remains underdeveloped in North America. While some solutions exist, they are not seamlessly integrated. This fragmentation of integrations creates a barrier for merchants and carriers due to the financial costs and time required.
Yet, more than three quarters of the surveyed merchants and carriers say they are interested in a secure delivery network.
Integrating several of these pickup points into the Envoi Montréal platform makes it possible to offer this service to merchants, alongside other carrier options. In 2023, the PUDO and Penguin Pick-Up networks were integrated into the Envoi platform. Shippers can now select this option when the relay point is linked to a carrier’s service.
Results and learnings
A simple user experience
Delivery to a locker or relay point is just as easy to select as standard delivery on the platform.
Additional cost for carriers
For most carriers, this delivery method incurs an additional cost, related to the usage fees of the pickup point.
Potential savings depending on the carrier
Some carriers offer lower prices for delivery to relay points than for home delivery: home delivery fees are eliminated and replaced with generally lower fees for delivery to a pickup point.
Challenges
Communication
Communicate the benefits for all stakeholders—merchants, consumers, and carriers—of using secure delivery points. For example: preventing theft, reducing the number of trucks on the streets, and eliminating failed deliveries.
Break down the costs
Work with carriers so that the efficiency gains of a secure delivery network translate into advantageous pricing, as is the case in Europe.
Deployment
Develop a dense network of secure delivery points open to all carriers to make the option attractive to everyone.
